As part of the LAFCI Classical series, faculty members Jorge Mester and Angel Velez team up for a special workshop dedicated to addressing the needs of the modern conductor, focused on artistic excellence, audition preparation with traditional orchestral repertoire, including live-to-film preparation, all culminating in a public performance. Accepted Fellows will receive over 80 minutes of podium time, plus the public performance.
Repertoire will include:
L'Histoire du Soldat - Igor Stravinsky
Appalachian Spring (suite for 13 instruments) - Aaron Copland
String Octet, Op. 20 - Felix Mendelssohn
Souvenir de Florence - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
*Tribute to the Film Composer - John Williams
*denotes not repertoire for final public performance
This workshop will be limited to a maximum of 10 Fellows and no more than 6 Auditors.

This workshop has two (2) possible levels of participation:
1. Fellow

Participation in all classes and sessions and conducting in final concert (filmed).
Fee: $1,500
2. Auditor

Passive participation in all classes and sessions and admission to final concert.
Fee: $250
LAFCI is committed to providing a safe environment for all to learn and work and will abide by all COVID safety protocols as required by both the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the respective studios. At this time, vaccinations are highly recommended but not required.
